This generation of newborns is the first of whom the parents grew up with facebook. This leads to these newly born babies being posted on the internet before even being a day old. When talking to parents who post a ton of pictures of their newborn, very few indicated this as a problem. As their safety settings are turned on, their baby’s privacy is not an issue. However: the baby has no influence in this act of being put online.
To address this, New Born Fame was created. It is a series of four products, which allow the baby to put him or herself online. Together, they cover all possible posts, from selfies to gps check-in. The products open up the discussion, rather then being an attack on parents who post pictures. What is ethical and what isn’t, and who has the right to make that decision?
This project gained a lot of attention all over the world, and appeared on television (CNN, NBC, RTL-Z) and online, as well as in various newspapers. It was also featured on Designboom en Vice. (Graduation project Design Academy, Oct. 2014).
